ARS Rates (arsrates.com) shows exchange rates and sends optional rate emails and alerts. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to remove it. In short: we collect as little as we can, we don't use tracking cookies or ads, and we never sell your data or share it for advertising.
If you create an account
- Email address: to log in and to send the emails you ask for.
- Password: stored only as a one-way hash (bcrypt). We can't see your password.
- Your settings: your alerts, which daily rate emails you chose, and your daily alert limit.
- Records of emails sent: when an alert was sent and the rate that triggered it, so we don't send the same alert twice.
We only send rate emails and alerts after you confirm your email address. Every one of them has an unsubscribe link. We also send account emails you trigger: the confirmation link, password resets, and a confirmation if you delete your account.
If you just visit
- Page view counts: which page was viewed, the website that linked to us, your device
type (phone, tablet or computer), and your browser's time zone and language. To tell new visitors
from returning ones, your browser keeps a random ID in local storage. If storage is blocked, we use
a one-way daily code instead. We don't store your IP address with page views, and we don't use
cookies. To stop being counted, open any page with
?notrack=1at the end of the address (?notrack=0turns counting back on). - Feedback: what you write, and your email only if you add it.
- "Had cash here?" reports: your yes/no answer and optional note, stored with the same random browser ID and not linked to your account.
- Login: when you log in, your browser keeps a login token for up to 7 days.
- Your location ("Near me"): only when you tap it and your browser asks you to allow it. On the exchange-house page it never leaves your browser. On the WU finder it's sent to our server to find the nearest locations and isn't saved, though, like any search, it appears in the server logs.
- Server logs: like most websites, our server logs requests, including IP addresses, to keep the site secure and working. Logs are rotated and deleted automatically.
Services we use
These services receive some data, such as your IP address, when you use the site:
- Hetzner hosts our server and database, and GitHub Pages hosts the main rates page.
- SMTP2GO delivers our emails.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) and Photon (Komoot): when you search for WU locations or exchange houses by address, your browser sends the address you type to them to find its location.
- jsDelivr, unpkg, cdnjs (Cloudflare) and Google Fonts serve page code and fonts to your browser.
How long we keep it
- Account data: until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your account, alerts and email subscriptions right away. Feedback isn't linked to your account, so it isn't removed with it; ask us if you'd like it deleted.
- Backups: nightly database backups are kept for 14 days, so a deleted account can remain in a backup for up to 14 days before it's gone for good.
- Page view counts and "Had cash?" reports are anonymous and kept to understand how the site is used and which WU locations have cash.
Your choices
- Stop emails: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or change your settings on the profile page.
- Delete your account: on your profile page, under "Delete Account".
- Ask a question, or request a copy or correction of your data: use the "Provide Feedback" button and include your email so we can reply.
